why developing emotional intelligence requires a different approach
In most organizations, emotional intelligence (EI) is developed alongside a core set of other “soft skills” or leadership skills. However, EI is unlike other skills, which are typically developed by learning and practicing key behaviors.
Rather, EI is the foundational way in which we interpret and respond to the world around us. EI is the foundation that enables people to excel at every other interaction skill.
Developing EI requires people to develop new neural pathways to change how they sense and manage their emotions, which is exactly what the SIY program is built to do.


a new approach to EI developed at Google
The SIY program’s unique approach to building emotional intelligence is rooted in its history at Google.
Back in 2007, Google was growing fast, and its teams were feeling the pressure. One engineering leader, who was passionate about mindfulness, saw an opportunity to help others manage their stress, work better together, and ultimately find more satisfaction in both their work and life.
He called in a group of the world’s top experts in business, mindfulness, neuroscience, and emotional intelligence to create something unique for Google employees: Search Inside Yourself (a playful nod to Google’s search origins).
Participants found that the program not only helped them manage their approach to work and stress, but it transformed their performance. Eventually, the program became so popular that SIY spun off into its own organization – and bestselling book – to develop emotional intelligence on teams around the world.
Program overview
Search Inside Yourself takes an evidence-based approach combining neuroscience, attention-training and emotional intelligence. The program provides practical tools that can be applied immediately in life or at work. We start with a foundation of mindfulness, and build the core emotional intelligence domains that lead to outstanding leadership.

Program details
an immersive 2-day experience with sustained habit formation
Step 1: 2-day program
Kick things off with a two-day immersive experience designed to dive into emotional intelligence. Through interactive exercises and applicable skills, you’ll learn how to build self-awareness, manage emotions, and communicate with greater impact. These two days lay the foundation for skills that will stay with participants long after the program.
Phase 2: 28 day challenge (15min per day)
Keep the momentum going with a quick, 15-minute daily challenge for the next 28 days. Each day, participants practice simple techniques to build focus, empathy, and resilience. This helps make emotional intelligence a natural part of their routine and fosters lasting behavior change.
Phase 3: Online Masterclass
The Search Inside Yourself program journey wraps up with a one-hour Capstone Webinar. This is a chance to reflect on new insights from the 28-day challenge, share wins, and explore tips for keeping emotional intelligence alive in your work and life.
Phase 4: Using the momentum
The Search Inside Yourself Program is the start of transformation in your organization. We provide individual post-training support to ensure ongoing growth, with resources like follow-up sessions with the group, 1on1 coaching and empowering the participants to grow their skills and keep other engaged!
